Interested in what the Smalliday Advent Set looks like in 2022? Spoiler Alert, I am going to upload daily photos of all 25 mini skeins as I open them. So if you have always wondered what this annual Crazy Beautiful Color set looks like, you are in the correct place!
I am in no way affiliated with any of the brands linked I enjoy spreading the love to small independent businesses!
For years now, I have been obsessed with watching Advent box openings on YouTube. This year is my year in that I will be joining the excitement by sharing! I love the concept of Advent / Holiday yarn sets. It’s truly an excellent gift for any fiber artist and it offers a great way to become familiar with a new indie dyer.
If this is your first time hearing of Emma’s Yarns, she is an incredibly talented dyer known for her Crazy Beautiful Color. Which only begins to describe her incredibly gorgeous color combinations. No matter what color palette you are striving for, Emma has something to match! I also really love the consistent availability of her yarns. Four Purl’s Yarn Shop is the headquarters of Emma’s Yarn and they have a literal massive inventory of every base and colorway made. They’re able to keep everything fully stocked because it’s all in the family in that her parents own the shop.
Why Emma’s Smalliday Set?
Well for starters there’s a whopping 25 mini skeins!! One for each day meticulously wrapped and we can only expect gorgeous colors. The set was initially available in her Practically Perfect Sock Smalls (Fingering Weight – 80% SW Merino / 20% Nylon – 2,025 total yards) and Simply Spectacular DK Smalls (75% SW Merino / 25% Nylon – 1,250 total yards). I purchased mine directly from Four Purls shop online, and at the time, all of the Fingering Weight Sets had already sold out. Given, I prefer DK weight anyways making it an easy switch!
Included in the set is a bar of Love + Leche lotion bar. These bars are a must-have in anyone’s project bag. The company has a really neat story and the moisture level is incredible. If you have never used a lotion bar before, they are made of beeswax and to use you simply rub on your skin and your body heat naturally melts the oils allowing your skin to absorb them. I’ve previously purchased this product and absolutely love it! Packaged in a stylish tin, it’s perfect for on-the-go.
What to make with mini skein sets?
Well, this set was pretty awesome in that they took all the guesswork out for you in what to make by supplying a list of three patterns (knit and crochet) perfect for the set!
Mini Skeins are also perfect for colorwork and scrap projects. I recently made a hexagon crochet cardigan using mini skeins and I am absolutely obsessed!
How do you get a set?
I wouldn’t assume it’s too late to get a set and it most definitely does not have to be December 1st to start the exciting journey of 25 days of yarn. As I mentioned previously, I bought mine from Four Purls online in November. But, on Emma’s Yarn website, she has a great list of all the Local Yarn Shops that have her Smaliday Sets. Be sure to check it out, one may even be your local yarn shop! I do remember last year, seeing sets for sale online after the advent season has begun.
At the time of writing this post, December 1st, Eat Sleep Knit had 11 DK sets left in stock.
If you are reading this in the future and thinking of purchasing a set, welcome and hopefully the future is better and that whole world peace thing is figured out. And yes, absolutely get a set!
