As a Harry Potter fan, I drooled over photos fellow fans had taken of their 9 3/4-month-old babies. I knew I had to develop a crocheted version that could be used for baby pictures and be a functional scarf for my son when he was older. Then of course why not make an adult size as well!

The crazy thing is, I actually designed this scarf 5 years ago almost! So crazy how much time has flied. I had only been crocheting for a year and a half and my mind was like the energizer bunny… I couldn’t stop designing patterns. I was absolutely terrible with my pattern writing but took the most in-depth notes. Literally, the notes for this pattern were 12 pages long!!

Now, after a few more years of designing patterns, I pulled this one out of the woodwork and realized it deserved some attention. So I spent some tremendous TLC on the writing, remade the scarf (more than once) and I’m ready to share it with the world!

So grab your hook and let’s get stitching.

I really enjoyed using the puff stitch for this pattern because it has that pillowy goodness of a bobble but it’s double-sided! So no matter which way your scarf gets flipped around it’s guaranteed to always look good.

The puff stitch is commonly completed using 3 dc but that wasn’t enough for me so I went with a 6 dc construction to create an extra squishy feel.

You are done! Time to move on to the optional border and fringe.

Don’t cut your yarn if you would like to add a border.

Border:

I like adding a Red border to have a nice clean edge.

Don’t cut yarn after main body and simply ch 1, then single crochet (sc) down each side working 3 sc in the each corner.

Once complete, cut your yarn and move on to the fringe.

Fringe:

Cut 4.5” (or your desired length) of yarn in both colors and attach to the bottom.

I used an empty toilet paper roll to wap the yarn around and cut.

Then attach to each bottom anyway you’d like. I chose to do a fringe in color blocks. You can use all one color or mix it up!
