My son from about 18 months has been completely captivated by any and all trucks. Which is why I knew making him a Monster Truck blanket for his bed would be a home run! The size is perfect for any crib, toddler or twin sized beds and will be a sure favorite for years to come.

I made this entire blanket for under $24 with plenty of yarn to spare!

This blanket is a huge bang for your buck in terms of yarn cost. I used Lion Brand Pound of Love yarn that I already had for making hats on my Addi knitting machine. I had gotten the yarn on sale at Joann’s for around $5 a skein making it a very affordable project. I still have enough left over yarn to make at least a dozen hats on my Addi to donate to charity. So if you are not in a hurry to get started keep an eye out for sales and be sure to Pin this pattern to easily access it later!

Finished Size:  62” (w) x 38” (h)

Notes

  1. This blanket is the perfect size for your toddler or twin sized bed.
  2. If you’d like to use a different yarn,  I highly recommend checking out www.yarnsub.com for really great tips on yarn substituting.
  3. C2C Basics:
  4. Pattern is a rectangle C2C project:
  • You will increase once per row until Row 45 when you reach the top right corner of the blanket.
  • Rows 46-68 you’ll maintain 45 squares by increasing the bottom width and maintaining the height.
  • Rows 69-112 you’ll be decreasing on both ends making the rectangle close.
  • For more help: https://youtu.be/J6MV_-qjDtc
  • For changing colors, before finishing the last stitch of old color, put a loop of new color on hook and pull through. https://youtu.be/SbG78BvZw8E
  • Another option for changing colors is to carry your color underneath each square. Some people really don’t like this method but I personally hate weaving in ends and with this pattern you can potentially have endless ends to weave in. If interested check out this YouTube video on how to carry your yarn. https://youtu.be/Mb4sqLTkKtQ

Border

If you are a more visual learner, I have included a convenient stitch diagram for the border instructions in my ETSY listing for this pattern.

For the border I wanted to tie in the colors of the truck body and also make it look almost like flames to match the truck flames.  For that reason you will be changing colors for each row:

  • Row 1: Red
  • Row 2: Gold
  • Row 3: Red

Picot-3: Ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook.

Row 1: sc around with 3 sc in each corner. Should be 3 st per square. Sl st into first st.

  1. I can not thank you enough for making a gift for a little boy. I have been hunting for months for a cardigan for a toddler or preschooler or a blanket – nothing – when I saw this today on Share a pattern I nearly cried. My little guy will be 3 in August and this will be just perfect – thankyou.

    1. Hi,
I’m so happy to hear your excitement about my pattern! My son is almost 2 and is obsessed with his blanket and I know your little boy will love it just as much! Thank you again and have a great week!

  2. Hi am doing this blanket & on Row 27 & just noticed that d mc does not have the number of stitches & it’s the same in all the next few rows

    1. Hi Nikki,

Where ever you see MC (or any other colors) and it is not followed by a number then you will just be doing one square of that color. I originally did this for space saving purposes on the PDF version but you are actually the second person that has asked so I am updating the instructions to add the “x 1” for each to make it simpler for everyone to understand!

As you have noticed, throughout the pattern there are quite a few areas where you just do one square of the color. For those sections especially, I recommend “carrying” your color so you won’t have as many ends to weave in. Here’s a really great YouTube video on how to carry your yarn.

Thank you so much for contacting me and I really hope you are enjoying the pattern!

Thanks and have a great day!
      Kelsey
