I came up with this pattern as a wedding gift after seeing a knit blanket on their registry from Target. I wanted to come up with a timeless design that is also very durable and machine washable (unlike the one from Target). I just love the simple farmhouse look the white yarn gives this pattern.
Made up of all slip stitches this is a great project to make while watching TV and makes the perfect gift that anyone will love!
Perfect size for a king size bed throw or would look great on anyone’s couch. Finished blanket size is 50″ x 70″.
If you would like a low cost printer friendly PDF download of this pattern, please check out my ETSY Shop.
I have also come up with a beautiful printable “Handmade with Love” gift tag that includes machine washable care instructions for any Bernat Blanket project. If you would like to download these tags, please check out my low cost ETSY listing where the tags are included with your purchase.
Finished Size: 50” x 70”
- Bernat Baby Blanket in White
- 4 balls + 15 yards (895 yards)
- Lion Brand Speed Hook (19mm)
- 10mm (for border)
- Darning Needle
- Tape Measure
- Chain (ch)
- Single Crochet (sc)
- Slip Stitch (sl st)
- Back Loop Only (BLO)
- Stitch (st)
If you notice, the pattern requires 4 balls of Bernat Baby Blanket yarn plus an extra 15 yards. If you want to keep it under 4 balls of yarn then feel free to save some yarn by:
- omitting approximately 5 rows from the blanket (making it shorter) or
- through the tassels by either using only 4 strands each or making each strand 2″ shorter.
Now for the pattern gauge:
- Gauge: 5” (w) x 5” (h)
- Ch 10
- Row 1: Sl st in back bump starting in 2nd ch (9)
- Rows 2-9: Ch 1, sl st in blo across (9)
Main Body: (Speed Hook/19mm)
Row 1: sl st in back bump of 2nd chain from the hook and across, turn. (84)
Row 2: Ch 1, sl st in blo across, turn. (84)
Rows 3-123: repeat row 2.
Do not cut yarn after finishing the main body.
Border: (10mm hook)
Turn work so you are working in the border into the last row stitched.
Ch 1, *3 sc in blo of first st, 1 sc in blo across and 3 sc in final stitch of row. 1 sc in each row down length* and repeat until reaching ch 1 then sl st.
First piece of fringe will go into the middle st of 3 sc corner cluster then *skip 3 st, fringe in next st* repeat until final corner middle st.
Cut 5 pieces of yarn 10” long each, insert hook into desired st, draw up a loop with 5 strands and pull tails through.
